Cocoa Mint Chai Milkshake

Who doesn’t love a milkshake?

As far as we can tell, chocolate and mint have been flirting with each other since the late 1940’s with the invention of the wildly popular Junior Mints.  In the 1950’s everyone had their favorite Grasshopper pie recipe.  In the 21st century, Mint Chocolate Chip is still one of the most popular ice cream flavors.  While we know it isn’t everyone’s “cup of tea”, Tipu’s Chai married the two flavors in 2016 in our Tipu’s Chai Now® Cocoa Mint Chai.

One of founder, Bipin Patel’s mom’s favorite things to do when the mint was growing in the garden, was to pinch a few sprigs and throw them into her chai.  It added a refreshing coolness to the firey chai and made it taste like springtime.  To that we added a pinch of organic cocoa to create an irresistible combination.

Even though we love to curl up in front of the fire with a cup of hot Cocoa Mint Chai, this flavor certainly lends itself to adaptation as a cold drink.  The simple addition of vanilla ice cream caused eyes to roll with pleasure when we recently experimented with making Cocoa Mint Chai Milkshakes.

And for those long summer evenings, adding a splash of something like Crème de Menthe or Crème de Cacao tops the day off nicely.

This recipe couldn’t be easier!

For a creamy milkshake (aka frappe): Add 4 ounces of boiling water to 2 Tbsp Tipu’s Chai Now® Cocoa Mint Chai.  Stir well to dissolve.   Add one ice cube to cool.

Add two big scoops of vanilla ice cream to blender.  Pour Chai mixture over ice cream and blend until smooth.

Chill a glass.  Drip chocolate sauce around the inside of the glass in a spiral.  Pour the milkshake in the glass and garnish with chocolate chips and a sprig of mint.

 

For a Float: Add 2 ounces of boiling water to 2 Tbsp Tipu’s Chai Now® Cocoa Mint Chai.  Stir well to dissolve.   Add 4 ounces ice cold milk.

Add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream to a chilled glass.  Pour Chai mixture over ice cream.  The ice cream should float to the surface (if it doesn’t, gently prize it loose with a long spoon).  Drizzle with chocolate sauce.

 

For a delicious after-dinner, blended drink, add one ounce Crème de Menthe or Crème de Cocoa to chai mixture before blending or drizzle it over the top of the finished milkshake.
